rPET-bottles: protecting the environment with recycled packaging material

rPET-bottles:

protecting the environment with recycled packaging material

We won’t be able to do without plastic for a while yet, even if a lot of people aren’t happy about that fact. But fortunately there are forward-looking alternatives that allow us to use the advantages of plastic as a packaging material without polluting the environment too much. One of these is rPET.

The raw material: PET

We all know PET-bottles. PET stands for polyethylene terephthalate and is made from crude oil and natural gas. It is colourless, highly translucent and can be shaped into a variety of forms. Because it’s also very sturdy and also food safe, this makes it excellent for packaging material. That’s why PET bottles are preferred for packaging food and cosmetics.

Saves energy, resources, CO22 and landfill sites: rPET

When you recycle PET, you get rPET, which is recycled polyethylene terephthalate. This plastic consists of 100% recycled PET bottles and is therefore much more resource-efficient than “normal” PET.

For producing rPET, PET bottles are cleaned and crushed and then processed into new packaging material by melting. This process saves energy and resources because no crude oil is involved. For example, a bottle made of rPET consumes up to 75% less energy during production than a normal plastic bottle. At the same time, this also reduces CO2 emissions.

Another environmentally friendly aspect of rPET packaging material is that fewer plastic bottles end up in the bin and therefore in landfills. And last, but not least: rPET bottles are recyclable themselves.

Packari and rPET

We’re proud to be a part of this cycle! Packari offers rPET bottles made from 100 % recycled plastic in a range of sizes and shapes for packaging cosmetics and food.

In this way, we prove that plastic can also be used for environmentally and climate-friendly packaging. And we go one step further: for those who want package in an even more sustainable way, Packari also offers packaging material made of glass. But that’s another story....
