Plastic buckets – the universal packaging

Plastic buckets – the universal packaging

Things to know about plastic buckets with lids

Plastic buckets with lids made of polypropylene (PP) have been on the market for a number of decades. They have established themselves as one of the most popular packaging solutions across all industries. The main reasons for this are

  • the simple and cost-effective production
  • the low-cost transport due to nesting
  • the universal applicability for many filling materials.

Buckets are also used as packaging material in the chemical/technical sector as well as in the food sector.

Plastic buckets are particularly popular in the food sector. They can be cleaned and disinfected very well and are easy to fill and close. Last but not least, the very good properties of the plastic PP come into play, which allows filling up to approx. 85°C. In this way, they do not contain any softeners or other hormone-active substances.

All plastic buckets offered by Packari.com are of course food safe.

Types of plastic buckets used as packaging

In the field of packaging material, there is a difference between 5 types of buckets:

  • Round buckets with lids
  • Oval buckets with lids
  • Square buckets with lid
  • Round buckets with lid
  • Round buckets and oval buckets with lid and UN dangerous goods test

There are also many other applications for buckets; however these cannot be directly assigned to the packaging sector.

A further distinction can be made depending on the material from which the handle is made.

  • Plastic handles are more common for plastic buckets with a volume of up to approx. 16 litres.
  • Larger buckets are equipped with a metal handle + handle roller, plastic roller on the metal handle, making them easier to carry.

Plastic hangers are mainly used in the food sector. The reason for this is the more intensive cleaning of the buckets in this area. Very large plastic buckets with a volume of 30 litres or more rarely have handles, but are equipped with so-called shell handles. These allow heavy loads to be carried even easier, even by two people.

Areas of application for oval buckets and round buckets

Oval buckets are often used in the chemical/technical field, especially in the construction sector for plasters and paints. Round buckets, on the other hand, are predominantly used in the food sector.

This distinction has grown historically. An oval bucket allows the painter, for example, to better immerse the paint roller in the bucket.

The material of the handle is also important. Food buckets predominantly have plastic handles, as cleaning tends to be intensive in the food sector.

For this reason, round buckets are almost exclusively supplied with a lid with a first-opening guarantee. Lids of oval buckets, on the other hand, usually have two rings on the lid so that it can be easily pulled off the bucket.

Think carefully about the area of application for which the buckets are needed and what properties they must fulfil before you buy a bucket. We will be happy to advise you on your choice of packaging buckets

Plastic buckets and the environment

Plastic buckets must be disposed of properly so that they do not pollute nature. Their very good durability, longevity and the toughness of the plastic can otherwise become a disadvantage.

However, plastic buckets are very easy to separate into materials and can be recycled. This is especially true for the bucket with plastic handle, as all parts are made of only a single plastic.

At Packari we have round and oval buckets from 1 to 30 litres capacity.
